Let’s talk Mental Health ♡

An inspirational psychotherapist, Amy Morin, had mentioned that our mental Strength is a lot like physical strength. If you want to be physically strong, you have to have good habits like working out and getting rid of junk food. Mental strength is the same. If you want to be mentally strong you have to practice good habits by feeding your mind with good words of gratitude towards yourself and others.

So, my first S.A.D post.

Heres my mental health issue. I have Social Anxiety. I’m thinking of sharing stories under this health topic about significant moments when my social anxiety ruined my life, and powerful moments when I was able to not let it define me. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting better but then hang out and party invites happen and I’m back to square one.

First off, it’s not that I don’t want to go to these parties or hangouts (so please keep inviting me to things. I like feeling wanted). I…just can’t. I instantly want to go home as soon as I agree to come and meet you due to paranoia and constant reassurance from my head that “this friend doesn’t really like you.” or “it’s a pity invite” and my personal fave, “everyone is going to judge you when you get there!”. These thoughts scare me.

Scare me enough to trigger a panic attack and let me tell you, panic attacks suck…a  lot!

It’s scary what the power of your mind can do to you and make you believe.

For those of you who didn’t know about me having social anxiety, I push you out of my life to make things easier for both me and you. Those who I have told, the constant check-ins and support go unnoticed. With this new year, it’s not a new me but a healthier me. Writing about feelings and experiences have helped me so much and I hope that this blog can do just that with others who have social anxiety. It’s kind of hard going out to find a community of people who can relate to you because well, that requires…socializing. Finding others who go through the same things you go through is a way of validating that you are not alone.

What is a mental fear you have that has been holding you back?

Whether you fill your life with what ifs and buts, I hope that you can break out of that habit this year. Silence the mind that you fill with negative voices. Remember when I mentioned how scary yet amazing the human mind is like a couple paragraphs ago? Well, let’s fill the mind with positivity. Let’s change that sentence:

It’s amazing what the power your mind can do to you and make you believe when you think positively.

I know it’s hard to try to ignore your fears cause society conditions us to care about what people think. Try to push yourself. When was the last time you were put in a situation where you had to push yourself emotionally or mentally? As hard as that situation was, you came out alive right?! You are stronger than you think!! I hope you can follow me on this journey of a healthy mind and life. Obstacles are meant to be challenged head-on instead of running away from them. The only way to deal with uncomfortable feelings is to go through them. How we react is up to us. We are all a work in progress. I hope that I will not be alone in this journey.
